Postcards of Ürgüp

Ürgüp is in the Cappadocia region and had different names in antiquity: Osiana, Bashisar and throughout the Ottoman Empire was called Burgut Castle; the present name has been in use since after World War One.

Place: Ürgüp - a typical rock at Goreme, excavated to form houses and churches. The very soft rock is the solidified lava erupted from Mount Erciyes 2000 years ago.
